About Shawn Maybush
Systems & robotics engineer based in Virginia. Leading hardware lifecycle and infrastructure operations at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
By day, I lead infrastructure decommissioning and hardware lifecycle operations at Amazon Web Services (AWS). By night, this workbench is where I explore autonomous robotics, mathematical modeling, embedded Linux systems, and developer-facing AI tools.
Engineering Focus
The workbench is dedicated to practical, ground-up engineering. Rather than treating hardware as an abstract black box or machine learning as magic, the focus is on understanding how the physics, algebra, and kernel drivers fit together:
- Robotics & Kinematics: Formulating non-linear forward and inverse kinematics using dual quaternions to eliminate representation singularities, and benchmarking fast edge inference for multi-DOF limbs.
- Embedded Systems & Microcontrollers: Writing native C++ Linux I²C drivers for servo controllers (like the PCA9685), creating virtual hardware stubs (
i2c-stub), and bridging physical buses into containerized ROS2 environments. - Applied Machine Learning & Toolchains: Leveraging Vertex AI, JAX, and local agent frameworks to build automated engineering companions and structured output pipelines.
Education & Background
I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Computer Science (Minor in Data Science) from Old Dominion University (GPA: 3.9) in June 2026. I also hold an A.S. in Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude) from Reynolds Community College and completed Udacity Nanodegrees in AI Programming with Python and Computer Science algorithms.
Writing & Notes
You can explore technical write-ups in the Lab Notes, review my career history on the Resume page, or inspect the underlying architecture on GitHub.
